| Door Frames
Door frames must be lined with lead equal to the wall shielding level. All hardware preparations are shielded to guard against radiation leakage. Hardware preparations also must be coordinated to match the higher than normal door weights. A&L Shielding manufactures both welded type frames for new construction and knock-down versions for existing construction. Wall thickness, including lead lining, must be specified when the frame is ordered. Frames are lined in two differenty ways. Type 1 lining is for inswing doors that swing TOWARD the shielded wall – when the lead lined door and the lead lined drywall are on the SAME side of the stop of the frame. Lead extends from the inside face down into the stop for Type 1 lining. Type 2 lining is for doors that swing AWAY from the shielded wall – when the lead lined door is on the OPPOSITE side of the frame stop from the lead lined drywall. These frames are fully lined with lead. Specify door swing and frame type with orders. Lead linings are clipped and welded into the frame to prevent movement during installation. Fire labels up to three hours as well as special gauges of metal and internal angle bracing are available. |
