Sheet Lead

Lead shielding represents a practical approach to the need for protection from X-Ray radiation. Its uniform density, high atomic number, level of stability, ease of fabrication, high degree of flexibility in application and its availability at reasonable cost are principal factors.

Sheet lead can be used to shield floors, ceilings, cabinets, safes, outlet boxes, etc. Lead sheets are available in sizes from 1/32" to 1". They are built into various structural objects such as walls and doors to give necessary shielding protection. Sheet lead requires adequate physical support when applied to a vertical surface such as a wall or to a horizontal surface such as a ceiling.

Lead plate is available for thickness over 1". Because lead plate is difficult to handle, layers of thinner sheets often are used to achieve the same shielding levels.
