Wood Doors

These doors are designed to provide an appearance equal to premium grade wood doors while providing radiation protection. They are available in particle-core construction with matching rail and stile edges.

Standard construction lead-lined wood doors from A&L Shielding are manufactured with lead under the door skins on both sides of the core (CoreClad®). When shielding levels require more than 3/8" thick lead, bolted center lead construction is used. Center lead designs with an adhesive bonded assembly are an extra cost option at 3/8" lead thickness and below.

These designs allow all normal architectural hardware to be used to provide equal performance and appearance to unlined premium doors.

For CoreClad® doors, fire labels are available if required by the application. Doors can be furnished with 20-minute neutral pressure or positive pressure (Category A or B) labels for doors with lead up to 3/8" lead thickness. Special mineral core construction is available that permits 45- and 60-minute Category A positive pressure ratings, which is an industry first. This construction is available for CoreClad® wood doors up to 4'0" x 8'0" and for pairs up to 8'0" x 8'0" with lead thickness up to 1/4".

Nominal door thickness is 1-3/4". Above 1/8" lead thickness, the door thickness will increase as the lead thickness increases.

Specific frame and hardware requirements exist in all cases for lead-lined wood doors. Door weights require hinges specially designed for use with these heavy lead-lined doors. A&L Shielding recommends that door weight be reviewed with hinge and door frame suppliers, as well as the installer, prior to final hardware selection.
